According to Jupiter Communications, a leading provider of research on Internet trends, 80 percent of all websites on the Internet today are in English. The research firm estimates that 55 percent of all websites will be published in languages other than English by 2003.
INTERNET ADVERTISING TO SURPASS BROADCAST ADVERTISING IN 5 YEARS
Online advertising spending will surge from $5.25 billion this year to $45.5 billion by 2005, and U.S. advertisers will spend more to tout their products and services on the Internet than they do on television, according to a study released on Monday. The Myers Group, a New York economic research firm specializing in media, said the United States will account for $4.32 billion, or 82 percent of global online ad spending this year. By 2005, U.S. spending will rise to $32.5 billion, accounting for 71 percent of the worldwide total of $45.5 billion. ‘We´re projecting the global markets moving at a faster pace than the domestic market,’ said Jack Myers, chief economist of the firm. ‘We´re really picking up on the fact that there´s pretty rapid escalation of the Internet in Germany, which will expand throughout Europe. Also the Asian market -- we´re seeing strong growth there, the Internet being one of the few media that will allow marketers to reach into the Chinese community.’ He said his firm, which plans to update its spending estimates in June and December and subsequently on a quarterly basis, sees U.S. online ad spending outstripping broadcast ad revenues five years from now...”
EUROPEAN CONSUMER INTERNET ACCESS GROWING FASTER THAN EVER
Europe´s consumer Internet industry is growing faster than ever before, according to a report from Datamonitor. The 25 million Western European households with Internet access will grow to 64 million by 2004, according to the fifth edition of Datamonitor´s "PC-Based Consumer Internet Access in Europe."
